Savvy Style Autumn/Winter 2008 A to Z!

A is for Androgyny – a perennial autumn favourite, androgyny is a stark contrast to spring’s flowery femininity.  Think tuxedo jackets, stovepipe trousers, leather and black, of course.

B is for Boots – ankle, calf and knee-length all hit the runway in a multitude of colour and styles and ranging from the simple and sleek to the edgy and embellished.

C is for Cocktail Hour – pick prettiness this year in modest, delicate styles.  Craving something more edgy?  Go for styles in bold, daring colours for that something extra!

D is for Daring Cut Outs – pair a slinky cut out dress with a thick, luxurious coat for evening or channel Jean Paul Gaultier in ornate cut outs in thick knits for a surprising high fashion kick.

E is for Earth Tones – burnt orange, ochre and withered rose are the neutrals for now!  Great as basic tops, cardigans and dresses, wear them alone or with creamy whites.

F is for Fashion Freedom – clashing caused a storm at New York Fashion Week!  Pair textured tights with a printed skirt or combine neon colours to make like a superstar.

G is for Grey – this colour du jour is an easy to wear: from light to dark, there’s a colour for every woman so stock up on trousers, knits and shimmery dresses in this easy-to-do hue.

H is for Hourglass – a classic!  From Marilyn to Salma Hayek, this feminine shape is under the high fashion spotlight with coats tied at the waist, A-line skirts and high-waisted jeans.

I is for Intensity – embrace rich jewel tones for clothes and accessories!  Opt for sapphire, ruby and rich purples to hit all the right notes this season.

J is for Jackets – leather jackets go hand in hand with autumn’s androgyny, padded jackets channel a retro or sporty vibe, and military styles are an eternally stylish choice.

K is for Knits – loose and extravagant knits are fashionable and functional!  Giant stitches, waffle patterns and a variety of colours adorn wintery jumpers, coats and long scarves.

L is for Layers – throw on layer after layer to stay toasty and on top of the trends!  Make the layers light to avoid a bulky shape, or throw on a waist-cinching belt to create curves.

M is for Multiple Coats – one for all doesn’t cut it this season with so many great coats to choose from!  Experiment with texture, length and volume to make like a fashionista.

N is for Neo-Bohemian – maxi dresses continue, as does fur, feathers, fringe and florals.  Swap spring’s headband for a headscarf and keep warm with coloured tights for head to toe hippy.

O is for Occasion Dressing – why not make an entrance?! Event dressing is back in vogue so be dramatic in floor length gowns – even go for gloves if you dare!

P is for Plaid – fall’s favourite fabric!  Skirts and coats are simple stylish choices but tartan accessories, dresses and ruffles shirts are also the toast of the town.

Q is for Quiet Confidence – with a return to propriety, this is the season for classic pieces to stand out.  Make minimal your middle name by investing in timeless items and sky-high heels.

R is for Respectable Hemlines – skirt lengths are falling again to the new calf-length hemline.  Not only for the office, this style can be playful, too, in delicate fabrics, fun colours and prints.

S is for Skirt Suit – move aside pant suit, favourite of so many seasons, and make room for the skirt suit.  Choose between longer pencil skirts and shorter voluminous skirts!

T is for Trousers – high-waisted styles continue to be hot, but slouchy styles will rival skinnies this season.  Go low and loose or high and wide-legged, or be brave in tricky harem trousers!

U is for Up on Top – spring’s cute hats are replaced with full out glamour as faux furs, feathers and bold colours become fall’s buzz words.

V is for Vampire Chic – ‘soft goth’, not harsh, is a big trend for fall.  Off-the-shoulder maxi dresses and lace details hit the mark… And lots of black, naturally!

W is for Wild Side – leather is enjoying a comeback in jackets and trousers, while rivets are embellishing shoes and handbags.  Smudge that black eye-liner and embrace your wild side!

X is for Xtra Volume – bell sleeved coats, super-wide or super-skinny pants, big bows and tiny buttons…  Fashion’s fascination with volume continues!

Y is for Yesteryear – be a 1970s girl in print dresses, floppy hats and flared denim, or make like a 1980s chick in preppy styles, neon colours and jelly shoes!

Z is for Zany Prints – the usual favourites like animal prints are making a splash, but so are ‘picture-prints’ like the skyscrapers and dogs adorning Versace cocktail dresses.
